For winter break in 2022, my parents and I went to Chile. We did so many activities in different parts of Chile.
Santiago, Chile
Today our first activity was a half a day tour. We looked at different places. We discovered some historic sites. I had learned and heard about Chile having a war with the Spanish. We climbed a lot of stairs to see the statue of Mary who was the mom of Jesus. I also tried a local drink with peach inside with bubbles in it called mote con huesillos. It tasted good and very delicious. We also took a funicular and I was a little excited and nervous at the same time. The first restaurant we tried in Santiago Chile was called Ambrosia Bistro, the food there is very delicious and amazing.
Punta Arenas and Patagonia
On Christmas eve day at 3:00 am we flew to PUNTA Arenas then we took the van for 4 1/2 hours to get to a Gaucho ranch (Estación Cerro Guido) in Patagonia.
Estación Cerró Guido and Torres Del Paine. We took a hike to Lake Sarmiento. We had a wonderful dinner with lamb and lentil soup. It was very good and delicious. They also had my favorite desert, macrons, as well as other very good deserts. We also went horseback riding and saw a lot of animals like foxes and guanacos. We went to Torres Del Paine Nation Park to hike some trails. We had a special picnic lunch, it was great! We hiked up where the pumas lived but we didn’t see the pumas. We visited some lakes and it was beautiful. When I hiked up, I went for it. I am proud of it.
Chiloe
We flew to Puerto Montt then we took the van to Chiloe island. We took a boat to see the glaciers and the penguins and do bird watching. We had fresh mussels and clams on the boat. Unfortunately, we did not get to see the whales but we saw dolphins and sea lions!
Puerto Varas
Our first activity was white water rafting. It was fun and beautiful. See the volcano! The only thing I didn’t really like was horseflies. They were everywhere and couldn’t keep my head up. I learned that Male horse flies don’t bite. They normally swing around and touch clothing. Female horse flies do bite. They also don’t like water when you spray it at them.
